BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Higher Education Minister and Dhamnagar MLA Suryabanshi Suraj on Saturday said “international technology” has been deployed in flood-hit areas of Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district to provide safe drinking water to affected residents.
In a post on X, Suraj said the technology was providing immediate relief to people in the flood-affected area. He attributed the initiative to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the efforts of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The state’s Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department said mobile water treatment units have been deployed at Dhusuri village in Dhamnagar block and another location in Tihidi block to ensure safe drinking water for flood-affected communities.
Sharing a video from the site, Suraj demonstrated the functioning of a mobile reverse osmosis (RO) water purification unit and drank a pouch of the purified water on camera to assure residents that it was safe and scientifically treated for consumption.
According to the department, floodwater is pumped into an overhead tank mounted on the mobile unit, where it undergoes ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO) treatment. The treated water is then packaged for drinking, while wastewater generated during the process is discharged separately.
Bhadrak is among the worst-affected districts in the ongoing floods, which have affected more than eight lakh people across 20 districts of Odisha.
