Indian hockey is once again rising,’ says Mandaviya as nation celebrates 100 years of the sport

New Delhi: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Hockey India on Friday marked a historic milestone, celebrating 100 years of Indian hockey with a grand centenary event at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.

The landmark occasion was attended by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, FIH President Dato Tayyab Ikram, and several hockey legends and members of the national teams.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Mandaviya said, “Indian hockey is once again rising and moving towards another Olympic medal. The sport has seen many phases, and it was through hockey at the Olympics that we showed the world what India can achieve in sports. We have never looked back since.”

He added that the Government of India would continue to extend full support to players and the sport, noting that over 1,000 matches were being played nationwide as part of the centenary celebration. “Entire Bharat revels in this proud moment,” he said, congratulating Hockey India, players, coaches, and fans for their contribution to the sport’s remarkable journey.
